Race Discrimination Law
Under the 1976 Race Relations Act it is unlawful for a person to discriminate on racial grounds against another person. The Act defines racial grounds as including race, colour, nationality or ethnic or national origins. Under British anti-discrimination and human rights legislation, you are also entitled to practice your religion or belief, express your views and get on with your day-to-day life without experiencing threats or discrimination.
Under the Equality Act 2006, it is unlawful for someone to discriminate against you because of your religion or belief (or because you have no religion or belief):
- in any aspect of employment
- when providing goods, facilities and services
- when providing education
- in using or disposing of premises, or when exercising public functions.

We advise residents on their legal rights and provide extensive support and assistance for anyone who wishes to take action.
What happens when I report an incident?
Your message will be picked up by a member of our team who we will call or email you as soon as possible to arrange an appointment. There’s no long waiting list and definitely no queuing.
However, if you do not wish to have your report investigated, we will record it onto our system and use this information as part of our monitoring and feed this information back to the appropriate agencies.
Please note:
- Any personal information that you provide on this form will be treated confidentially.
- We will NOT give personal details about you to anyone, including the police or other organisations without your consent.
- In very some circumstances, details of the racist incident that you report will be provided to the police or other organisations. Before doing that, we will take account not only of the seriousness of the incident, but also of the danger of recurrence. We will also have regard to any danger to you and any other witnesses or victims. You will be notified in advance and your consent will be obtained.
